A natural gas compressor that exploded in a northern Israeli oil field killed an endangered dog and an injured goat, the Israel Animal Welfare Association said Thursday.

The animal was killed when the unit of the unit was damaged by a shrapnel blast, the animal welfare group said.

It said the animal was wearing a collar at the time of the explosion, and that the explosion was “unexpected.”

The explosion took place in the field of Nahalat, in the Negev desert northwest of Jerusalem, on March 7.
